Bayer to Invest ₹200 Cr in Karnataka Manufacturing Facility
Bayer signs a ₹200 crore MoU with Karnataka to establish a manufacturing facility near Bengaluru, with plans to create around 220 jobs over seven years.
German life sciences and agricultural sciences company Bayer has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka government to establish a new manufacturing facility near Bengaluru, involving an investment of ₹200 crore. The project is expected to generate approximately 220 employment opportunities and strengthen the state's industrial and manufacturing ecosystem.
The agreement was signed on November 6, 2026, by Industries Department Principal Secretary S. Selvakumar and Bayer Chief Financial Officer Vineet Jindal in the presence of Karnataka's Large and Medium Industries Minister M. B. Patil. The investment will be made in phases over the next seven years, according to the state government.

The proposed facility will expand Bayer's manufacturing presence in Karnataka, particularly in the agricultural sciences segment. The company manufactures agricultural products, including fertilisers, pesticides and fungicides, which support crop protection and agricultural productivity. The investment is expected to contribute to the state's efforts to attract multinational companies and expand its industrial capabilities.
Minister M. B. Patil said the company was keen to initiate the project at the earliest. He added that the groundbreaking ceremony is planned before the Global Investors Meet scheduled for April 2027, with manufacturing operations expected to commence as soon as possible. The investment discussions followed meetings between the minister and Bayer's senior leadership in Amsterdam during his recent visit to the Netherlands to attract fresh investments to Karnataka.
Bayer already maintains an established presence in Karnataka through its Service and Innovation Hub in Bengaluru and a Crop Testing Centre in Chamarajanagar. These operations support the company's activities in innovation, research and agricultural solutions. The proposed manufacturing investment will add to its existing footprint in the state and create additional employment opportunities.
Bayer has been operating in India for 125 years and employs approximately 11,000 people across the country. Its existing Indian operations include seven manufacturing plants and three Global Engineering Centres (GECs), reflecting its presence across manufacturing, research, engineering and innovation activities.

The investment is part of Karnataka's broader efforts to attract foreign direct investment and strengthen its position as a destination for advanced manufacturing and technology-led industries. The state has been engaging with international companies across sectors to encourage new projects, expand existing operations and generate employment.
The proposed facility adds to Bayer's long-term engagement with India and is expected to support its agricultural business while contributing to Karnataka's manufacturing growth. Its implementation over the coming years will depend on the project's development and execution milestones.
