India and the Netherlands India and the Netherlands are exploring greater cooperation in semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, green hydrogen and renewable energy as Piyush Goyal’s visit seeks to expand trade, investment and technology partnerships.

India and the Netherlands are exploring expanded economic cooperation in semiconductor technology, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy and green hydrogen as Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal continues his official visit to the Netherlands. The discussions aim to strengthen bilateral trade, attract investment, support technology collaboration and build more resilient supply chains.

During the visit, Goyal met Dutch government representatives and business leaders to identify opportunities for closer industrial cooperation. In discussions with Sjoerd Sjoerdsma, the Netherlands’ Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, both sides explored ways to expand Dutch investment in India’s manufacturing, research and development, infrastructure, logistics, renewable energy and digital technology sectors.

The two ministers also discussed leveraging the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) to expand trade flows, improve market access and create additional investment opportunities. The agreement could help businesses diversify supply chains and strengthen commercial links between India and European markets once the necessary approval procedures are completed.

Semiconductor cooperation emerged as a major priority during Goyal’s meetings with senior executives from Dutch technology companies. He met Stefan Tilger, interim chief executive officer of Nexperia, to discuss opportunities for greater collaboration in the semiconductor industry. Discussions with Wayne Allan, executive vice president and member of ASML’s Board of Management, focused on expanding the company’s engagement with India, advanced semiconductor technologies, innovation and skills development.

The engagement reflects India’s efforts to strengthen its domestic semiconductor ecosystem by combining manufacturing capacity and skilled talent with international expertise in chipmaking equipment and advanced technologies. Cooperation could create opportunities in research, workforce development, technology transfer and industrial partnerships, although the discussions have not yet resulted in any newly announced semiconductor investment commitment.

Clean energy was another important focus. In a meeting with Occo Roelofsen, founder and chief executive of Power2X, Goyal discussed collaboration in green hydrogen, renewable energy and emerging technologies. The discussions explored potential opportunities across clean energy infrastructure, technology development and investment, supporting India’s energy transition and the Netherlands’ sustainable technology capabilities.

Goyal also addressed the India-Netherlands Business Forum in The Hague, highlighting the complementary strengths of the two economies and the potential to expand commercial partnerships. His visit included engagements with Dutch parliamentarians and business representatives, with discussions covering high technology, innovation, manufacturing and supply-chain connectivity. Around 100 Indian businesses and startups accompanied the minister during his wider visit to Germany and the Netherlands.

The engagement builds on the India-Netherlands Strategic Partnership Roadmap for 2026-2030, which identifies semiconductors, renewable energy, critical minerals and advanced technologies as priority areas for cooperation. The next stage will depend on converting these discussions into specific projects, investment commitments and long-term industrial partnerships.
