JSW Energy (Utkal) Limited, part of the JSW Energy group, has reached an important agreement regarding the sale of electricity with several electricity distributors in Karnataka for the purchase of 400 MW of electricity.
The electricity will be provided through the contract starting from April 1st 2026, and the agreement will have a 25-year duration with an agreement price of Rs. 5.78/- for each Kwh sold.
This extended contract will really help improve the company’s revenue visibility by creating more certainty about what their revenues will look like going forward, and significantly reduce the company’s dependence on selling its open capacity in merchant markets.
Additionally, as part of this transaction, JSW Energy has also been able to decrease its open capacity from 8% to around 5%.

JSW Energy's 30.5 GW of locked-in capacity is a result of an agreement announced recently. Of this amount, 13.3 GW are currently producing electricity, while the remaining 12.4 GW are in the construction phase. Both thermal and renewable resources are represented in their total capacity.
The company has additional assets, which include a 150 MW hydro generation facility, and a development pipeline totaling 4.6 GW. Also, the 29.4 GWh has been committed to energy storage systems, which include 26.4 GWh devoted to hydro pumped-storage and 3.0 GWh for batteries.
In FY 2030, the company aims to reach 30 GW of total generating capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity. The company reaffirms its commitment to long-term sustainability goals, with a vision of carbon neutrality by 2050. JSW Energy's current strategic move will support their objectives for growth and be positioned to strengthen their presence in the energy business.
