
President Murmu to Visit Three European Nations from July 19
Synopsis: President Droupadi Murmu will visit Moldova, North Macedonia, and Romania from July 19–25 to deepen bilateral ties, expand trade and technology cooperation, and strengthen India’s strategic engagement with Eastern Europe.
The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will be making a state visit to Moldova, North Macedonia, and Romania, from July 19 to July 25, as a part of the Indian Government’s efforts to further strengthen bilateral relations and increase the engagement of India with the Eastern European region. This three-country visit is anticipated to strengthen the cooperation between the countries politically, economically, and strategically and also generate new avenues of collaboration in various fields.
The trip is scheduled to start from Moldova on July 20 at the invitation of the president of Moldova Maia Sandu. It will be the first-ever visit of an Indian president to Moldova and would be a historical step for both the countries. President Murmu will have delegation level talks with President Sandu, will meet the speaker of parliament Igor Grosu, and will interact with the representatives of Moldova-India Parliamentary Friendship Group and the India-Moldova Business Forum. She is expected to talk about the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of agriculture, pharmaceuticals, health care, IT and education.

President Murmu is scheduled to visit North Macedonia during the second part of her journey from July 21st-22nd. This will be the first time that an Indian President will pay a state visit to North Macedonia. She will participate in bilateral meetings with President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, and she will meet with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and the President of the Assembly. President Murmu will also deliver an address to the Assembly of North Macedonia and the India-North Macedonia Business Forum.
The final portion of her tour will include a trip to Romania from July 23 to 25, which would be the first visit by an Indian President to Romania in over three decades. She is set to meet President Nicușor Dan, Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, Senate President Mircea Abrudean, and Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Sorin Grindeanu. Moreover, she will engage with the Romania-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, speak at the India-Romania Business Forum, and meet with members of the Indian diaspora. Romania is considered a significant ally of India in the European Union, and both nations will focus on how their economic ties could be strengthened in the backdrop of India-EU FTA.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit of India to these three countries “highlights India’s strategic emphasis on forging relationships with countries from Eastern Europe through political discourse, economic engagements, and people-to-people contacts.” The visit will not only improve bilateral relations but will also strengthen business cooperation in a geopolitically and economically important region.
