Nexperia Partners With Tata After Fallout With Chinese Parent

Nexperia partners with Tata Electronics to manufacture and package semiconductor chips in India, covering wafer fabrication in Dholera, assembly and testing in Jagiroad, and future technology collaboration.

Dutch semiconductor company Nexperia has entered into a strategic partnership with Tata Electronics to manufacture and package semiconductor chips in India, expanding cooperation across wafer fabrication, chip assembly, testing and future technology development. The partnership comes as Nexperia continues to separate its operations from Chinese parent company Wingtech.

Under the agreement, Nexperia and Tata Electronics will work on manufacturing a range of Nexperia’s power control chips at Tata Electronics’ upcoming 300mm semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat. Tata is developing the facility with an investment of around $11 billion, with production planned across semiconductor technology nodes ranging from 28nm to 110nm.

The collaboration also covers the back-end stages of semiconductor manufacturing. The companies will cooperate on the assembly and testing of Nexperia’s discrete semiconductor products at Tata Electronics’ packaging facility in Jagiroad, Assam. Tata Electronics is investing around $3 billion in the semiconductor packaging facility, which is being developed to support large-scale chip packaging operations.

Nexperia said the partnership is structured around three areas: front-end wafer fabrication, back-end assembly and testing, and technology and ecosystem development. The companies will also explore future technology collaboration as part of the agreement. Financial details of the partnership were not disclosed.

Tata Electronics CEO and Managing Director Randhir Thakur said the partnership represents an important step in the company’s efforts to develop an integrated semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India. Nexperia’s interim CEO Stefan Tilger said the collaboration combines the companies’ capabilities in technology, manufacturing and innovation while supporting the development of semiconductor capabilities in India.

Nexperia is a major supplier of semiconductor components used in automotive and consumer electronics applications. Its relationship with Wingtech has faced significant disruption following intervention by the Dutch government in 2025. China subsequently imposed temporary restrictions on exports of Nexperia chips packaged in China, contributing to supply concerns among automotive manufacturers. While some restrictions have since eased, Nexperia remains divided across its Dutch and Chinese operations.

The new Tata partnership adds another manufacturing and technology route for Nexperia while supporting Tata Electronics’ expansion across India’s semiconductor value chain.
