Russian Firms Eye Tech Partnerships With India Ahead of BRICS

Russian industrial firms are exploring technology-transfer partnerships with India ahead of the BRICS Summit. Innoprom.India will showcase cooperation opportunities across AI, aviation, energy, critical minerals and advanced manufacturing.

Russian industrial companies are looking to expand their presence in India through technology-transfer partnerships as both countries seek to strengthen manufacturing cooperation ahead of the upcoming BRICS Summit. The initiative is aligned with India’s Make in India programme and is expected to support localisation, industrial capacity building and access to advanced technologies.

Russian companies from sectors including aviation, technology, energy, mining, nuclear power and heavy industry are set to showcase their capabilities at Innoprom.India, a joint India-Russia industrial exposition scheduled in New Delhi from September 9 to 11. The event will bring companies from both countries together to identify opportunities for technology cooperation and industrial projects.

The exposition will cover a broad range of emerging and strategic areas, including artificial intelligence, digital technologies, regional aviation, critical minerals, raw materials, trade infrastructure and additive manufacturing. The participation of Russian industrial majors reflects a wider effort to move bilateral economic relations beyond conventional trade towards technology-driven manufacturing partnerships.

The main plenary session on September 10 will feature Russian Industry and Trade Minister Anton Alikhanov and Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening the strategic partnership, expanding bilateral trade and investment, improving market access and developing joint industrial projects.

The technology-transfer push could provide Russian companies with greater access to India’s expanding manufacturing ecosystem, while Indian industries could benefit from Russian expertise in specialised industrial technologies. Such cooperation could also contribute to domestic value addition and supply-chain resilience across strategically important sectors.

The event comes ahead of the BRICS Summit, giving the two countries an opportunity to align industrial cooperation with broader economic priorities under India’s BRICS presidency. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin are also expected to jointly attend Innoprom.India, adding political significance to the industrial engagement.

The renewed focus on industrial technology partnerships indicates a shift towards deeper production and innovation linkages, with both sides seeking to expand investment, market access and collaboration across advanced manufacturing and strategic technologies.
