This move has come at a time when deep tech entrepreneurship has become increasingly important in the technology and industry landscape of India. Many startups dealing in sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, defence systems, space and robotics need a significant amount of money and other resources like specialised know-how and longer cycles of development.
MiPhi Semiconductors will be crucial in ensuring the successful growth of the companies by facilitating access to its semiconductor technology connections and international partnerships, such as its joint venture with Phison Electronics. The family office will be able to benefit from the manufacturing strengths of Bhagwati Products by being able to get technology and manufacturing partnerships for the selected startups as they scale up.
The family office has already begun allocating capital in accordance with its investment approach. It still concentrates on companies that solve complicated engineering and technological issues but also possess a significant business potential and the capability of growing internationally. Instead of restricting itself to making financial investments only, the platform is going to help the companies in its portfolio in several fields such as product commercialisation, production scaling up, etc.
As per Aakil Garg, Micromax Informatics’ Investment Head, the family office will look at an average starting investment ticket size of ₹10-20 crore; however, the firm has kept the ability to invest in any tech-driven Indian or global start-up that has strategic potential for the future. The key focus of investments would be founders scaling up their business where Micromax’s industry knowledge adds value.
The co-founder of Micromax, Rahul Sharma, explains the significance of offering deep-tech entrepreneurs resources, collaborations, and knowledge in the sector to turn their concepts into viable businesses. This project shows how Micromax wants to help India achieve industrial growth through technology.
The family office can be expected to assist in solving some of the hardest parts of deep tech start-up growth, such as creation of prototypes, commercialisation, expansion of production, and access to global markets. By leveraging investment capital together with operational and sectoral expertise, the project will enable an easier journey from innovation to commercialisation.

This Rs. 250 crores funding further contributes to the growing corpus of private money looking to enter into India's deep tech sector. Furthermore, it is indicative of how corporates and family offices have been playing an increasingly important role in funding technology startups.
In light of its emphasis on areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, defense, space, and robotics, the recently formed family office of Micromax aims to find tech companies which have the ability to create internationally acclaimed products. This program is anticipated to help in building the capacity of deep-tech entrepreneurs in terms of capital and industry connections.
