The discussion reflects continued efforts by New Delhi and Ottawa to expand cooperation after a period of strained relations. Both governments have increased diplomatic engagement over the past year, with trade, energy and security emerging as important areas for collaboration.

Trade negotiations remain a key priority. The two countries are working towards a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which is intended to strengthen economic ties and support their shared ambition of expanding bilateral trade by 2030. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to concluding negotiations at the earliest opportunity.

Energy cooperation is another important focus, as both countries seek reliable supply chains and greater economic resilience. The leaders also highlighted opportunities to advance technology collaboration and strengthen security engagement, including through ongoing bilateral dialogue.

People-to-people ties remain central to the partnership, complementing broader cooperation in finance, defence, artificial intelligence and other areas. The leaders agreed to remain in close contact ahead of Modi’s planned visit to Canada in December 2026.
